Many practitioners have found that using the same fresh black soldier fly raw material, the finished product after microwave drying is golden and transparent, the insect body is full and stretched, and the shape is regular. Do you know how it was done?
Firstly, let's take a look at the traditional low-temperature drying method, which belongs to external heat transfer drying and relies on hot air and ambient temperature to slowly penetrate the insect body. The drying process is slow and usually takes several hours. Heat can only gradually seep into the interior of the black soldier fly through its skin, resulting in a high surface temperature and low internal temperature, forming a clear temperature gradient. In order to dry the internal moisture, it can only be heated continuously for a long time. Prolonged warm environment will slowly oxidize and brown the proteins and oils in the black soldier fly's body, causing the originally bright color to gradually darken, turn gray and black, and lose its transparent texture.
Microwave drying, on the other hand, involves synchronous and uniform heating both inside and outside, with a simple and easy to understand principle. Microwaves can penetrate the entire insect body, causing the water molecules inside the black soldier fly to vibrate rapidly and generate heat through friction. The insect body itself generates heat as a whole, without any temperature difference between the inside and outside. The entire drying process only takes a dozen minutes and is extremely fast, avoiding oxidation problems caused by prolonged heating from the root. It locks in the natural color of the black soldier fly as much as possible, and after drying, the finished product uniformly presents a bright golden yellow color, transparent and glossy.
In terms of morphological preservation, the moisture generated by microwave drying is uniformly precipitated from the inside out. The internal water of the insect vaporizes and expands, gently spreading the insect tissue and avoiding the problem of premature hardening and crusting of the epidermis. The entire process is uniformly heated and dehydrated, and the insect body will not be pulled or deformed. After drying, the black soldier fly is full and stretched, with a regular body shape and uniform thickness, without problems such as drying, curling, or cracking.
