News | Australia mandatory standards for button/coin batteries

    Author:中認聯科 time:2021-03-06 Ctr:2815

Australia has introduced four mandatory standards to reduce the use of button batteries and the risk of death and injury associated with button batteries. The requirements of mandatory standards apply to button batteries and coin batteries. Mandatory standards include an 18-month transition period to allow suppliers time to make any manufacturing and design changes to products and packaging to meet the new requirements. Starting in June 2022, suppliers must comply with the requirements in the standard.

The four mandatory standards for button/coin batteries are:

Consumer Goods (Products Including Button/Button Battery) Safety Standard 2020

Consumer Goods (Products Including Button/Button Battery) Information Standard 2020

Consumer Goods (Button/Button Battery) Safety Standard 2020

Consumer Goods (Button/Coin Battery) Information Standard 2020

Products containing button/coin batteries include but are not limited to:

    remote control

    Watch

    computer

    camera

    Calculator

    Torch

    Flameless candle

    Fitness Equipment

    Digital kitchen and bathroom scales

    Music greeting card

    Home medical equipment.

This mandatory standard specifies the requirements for all consumer products containing button/coin batteries, including storage containers and storage boxes, and accessories for consumer products, such as remote controls containing button/coin batteries.

This mandatory standard requires that consumer products equipped with button/coin batteries must have a safe battery compartment in which to replace the battery, and a conformance test should be carried out. The compliance test applies to whether the battery is intended to be replaced to prove that the battery is safe and will not be released under reasonably foreseeable use or misuse conditions.
